Time travel became a necessity for eccentric writer Chester Fuze after years of unrequited love for the unattainable celebrity of his dreams compound his inability to accept her unhappy life choices. Left to his own thoughts and with twenty years to invent… ultimately catalyzed by events so disturbing he must effect change, Chester succeeds in traveling to the past. He grapples with dual existence, what-ifs and anti-paradox. Interject an escaped convict, gambling, insights into the secret lives of television writers, and a vintage car, and Chester must yet battle his own substantial insecurities, not to mention actual threats of physical harm, in order to succeed.
Lewis Aleman, memorable freshman English teacher for much of the Archbishop Rummel High School Class of 2011, earned an LSU English degree with a focus on creative writing.
Cold Streak, Aleman’s debut novel and an Amazon and Kindle Bestseller, is worked into the Hollywood setting of this second book as a script title. There is craftsmanship in Aleman’s details; elaborate use of adjectival simile and metaphor. Faces in Time is a vehicle for characterization through first-person perspective. Each plot contribution directly or indirectly stimulates the protagonist to question his actions and ultimately sacrifice for love. The author is mindful of Fuze’s influence on the past, allowing the character to evolve his way through equal helpings of good and bad luck. The romance is memorable, and I give Aleman kudos for space-time research well done!
